ORA Petitions for Two Year Renewal Licensing for OLCC Licensees

As it currently stands, OLCC requires their licensees to renew their licenses on an annual basis. The Oregon Restaurant Association has recently filed a rulemaking petition to allow licensees of the OLCC to renew their licenses every two years rather than annually as now required. This will only apply to licensees who are renewing their license, not first time applicants. The first application as a licensee will always be for one year; however, any renewal after the initial year can be for one or two years.

If a licensee should choose to apply for a biennial renewal license, the fee will be twice the amount of the annual fee. Therefore, the licensee will be given the choice of either renewing annually or biennially. If the renewal duration is increased to two years, licensees and the OLCC should experience a decrease in paperwork and efforts to renew. Other than the change in fee and duration, the biennial license will have the same attributes as the current annual license.

The petition is viewable on the OLCC web site: http://oregon.gov/OLCC/. Go to the Laws and Rules button, and follow the link to “Current Petitions Received”. This petition will be reviewed and a decision will be made during the June Commission meeting at OLCC. ORA will be sure to post the outcome of this meeting as soon as the decision is made. If the Commission is in favor of the two year licensing, the rules process will begin at that time. In the meantime, please contact Kara Thallon at kara@ora.org with any questions.
